Xi visit: Nepal and China not to sign extradition treaty

Kathmandu, October 10

Nepal will not be signing an extradition and mutual legal assistance treaty with China during Chinese President Xi Jinping’s state visit to Nepal on October 12.

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, after consulting with former prime ministers and senior leaders on Thursday, made this decision.

He said that even though Nepal was in talks about signing extraditions treaties with a few countries, nothing was concrete just yet.

According to sources, a draft of the treaty has been readied after consultation between officials from both China and Nepal. If the treaty is signed, Nepal and China can extradite criminals to one another.
